Plumbing service FAQs
My water heater is leaking, what should I do?
If your water heater is leaking it's usually a sign that the bottom area where the igniter is located is rusted. This makes it difficult to keep the flame going and it's usually best to replace the unit. There are also other options, such as upgrading to tankless water heaters, that are gaining in popularity.
Why does my toilet keep running?
A toilet that runs consistently is a problem that needs to be adressed immediately. A running toilet can go through hundreds of gallons of water in no time causing a very surprising and large water bill. The main culprits are a flapper or flange that is not sitting flush to the drain or a chain that gets wrapped up with the flush arm.
Where is my main water shut off valve?
Every homeowner has to make it his or her business to find out where the shutoff valve is in their home. Usually it is in the basement. The shutoff valve is likely coming out of the wall and may be attached to a water meter. Outside of the house, near the curb, there is also a shutoff valve in a pit that the water company uses to measure water use or to shut off water in case of an emergency.
