Tools and Materials Every Homeowner Should Own for Quick Home Repairs
There are times when homeowners feel that there are many small repairs that they could tackle themselves. It’s actually empowering and you’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment when you can “fix it” without calling a professional. Taking care of home repairs requires various tools and materials. When amassing tools try to avoid the $5 bargain bins at discount stores. You can’t go wrong with quality tools for ease of use and longevity.
Here are tools that every homeowner should own:
1) Screwdriver set: includes flat head and Phillips head for most applications. Also, buy a set of mini screwdrivers for those tiny electronic repairs
2) Claw hammer
3) Power drill: variable speed, forward and reverse should do it
4) 25 foot, high quality measuring tape. Also, it’s good to own a 16’ and 12’ as well
5) A Dremel multi tool with adjustable heads for intricate work
6) A set of long nose pliers
7) Adjustable wrenches
8) Level
9) Plumbing tools, auger, plungers, etc.
10) Voltage meter
11) Small hand sanders
Here are materials that every homeowner should own:
1) Spackle, putty knife and wood filler for damage to wood and sheetrock
2) WD-40
3) Small can of white semi gloss paint to touch up most baseboard and door trims
4) Super glue, wood glue and Goof Off
5) Assorted sizes of paint brushes
6) Caulk gun with tubes of silicone and caulk materials
7) Assorted sizes of nuts, bolts, nails and screws
Of course, there are many more materials and tools that you can add to your home toolbox. Just browse your local superstore for ideas. However, I feel that these are the essential tools to have on hand at all times. You can grow your collection as needed.
