Last month we discussed how the coronavirus was not heavily impacting the construction and remodeling business. Yes, there have been some slowdowns and obviously new restrictions on sanitizing, wearing masks etc. However, a large segment of the work has shifted from commercial business to more home remodeling and home improvement projects. As more and more homeowners are quarantining at home, there’s been a realization of what needs to be repaired, remodeled and renovated in order to make staying at home more comfortable.

Decks & Porches

One uptick we’re seeing is a revival on building and remodeling decks and porches. Simply said, if our clients are spending more time at home coming into the summer season, there is an understanding that perhaps the best way to enjoy the limited freedom is to spend time outdoors on a new deck and patio. Perhaps you’ll even have the chance to invite a friend over, have a socially distant get together and show off your new wraparound or screened porch.

Enhancing the Stay at Home Experience

 Existing wood decks are being restained and re-planked with composite wood and cement patio porches are being upgraded with pavers and other decorative stones. In addition, single doors leading out to decks and porches are being upgraded to larger patio sliders and French doors, allowing more light to come in. Also, smaller windows leading out to decks are being exchanged for larger picture windows. All of these modifications and upgrades are meant to enhance the stay at home outdoor experience.

Veggie Gardens

Just a quick mention, for the first time in a long time we’re building wooden vegetable garden plant beds with netting for our regular clients. It seems that it’s a better and safer alternative to constantly going to the store to buy your fresh vegetables.
